How can it be?

November 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Taken from the Caritas ‘Be More’ challenge website :

How can it be that Australians spend an average of $893 per week on goods and services whilst others in the world and in our own country suffer extreme poverty, with many in the world living on less then $2 a day?

How can it be that the richest nations, like Australia, have contributed 77% of the total historic greenhouse pollution yet other nations like our neighbours in the Pacific are suffering the affects of climate change?

How can it be that 97% of Australian children are enrolled in primary school yet nearly one billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names?
